Marie-France Roy

The pressure of being a pro snowboarder is hard enough. You are expected to perform in any conditions and at a drop of a hat for filmers, photographers and sponsors. The expectations for MFR this season were higher than ever coming off her previous year of winning pretty much every award and winning the respect of every snowboarder, male and female, around the world. In true MFR fashion, she rose to the occasion and stepped out of her comfort zone to lay down another mind-blowing video part that is more diversified than anything seen to-date—a powerful mix of pow, rail, jump and park.

What is the wildest place you have ever been?
China, no question.
Style: who has it?
There are all kinds of different types of styles. Street cred style, Hadar (Laura) is up there; I love her and love how she doesn’t give a fuck. I can’t go without saying LNP as well because he’s the icon of tightness. Gangster style, Max and Yan because they act all gangster, but then they are so nice and so funny. Snowboarding style, I like Jamie Anderson’s cat stomps and Cheryl kills it too. There are also all those genuine people that have their own style in life that I love, like Chanelle Sladics, Natasza Zurek, Bevy, Raewyn Reid and my really good friends in Whistler, Johné, Claudia and Claude. That’s style for me.
NCW? Tell us whatever you want about the film?
I can’t wait to watch it after what I’ve seen out there on the snow hills this season. Everyone killed it.
Best story of another team rider?
Dofin in Revelstoke. Just listening to the stuff he would say all day put you in the best mood no matter how pissed or bummed out you were; and the time he got a concussion was pretty hilarious.
When you’re not shredding you’re doing what?
I try to get away. I went to a lot of tropical places this summer and tried the surfing thing. It’s really hard and I suck, but it makes me so happy. Aside from that, I like to hang out with my friends, skate, bike, and see the family when I can. The good life!
What do you want to be doing in ten years?
I want to be an ecologist that’s doing something good for the environment. I love the bugs, plants, animals, and the ocean…even seaweed. I would like to give back. I definitely feel like I’ve been blessed in my life.
